Self Reflection: Manifesto

I FEEL…
Happy, complete, that another piece of me is in video, exposed, excited, relieved, proud.
I could not be more satisfied with my work, with the amount of time I had to produce it in. Yes, it is not perfect, but neither am I. My work spoke the message that I was trying to give, that I will NEVER LOSE, and you shouldn’t either.
I learned from my feedback that less can be more and I will use that information in my projects to come. I also will integrate even more camera angles into my films, to get the viewer to see exactly what I want them to see. I learned that producing something about yourself is hard, because you want to portray yourself the best you can, it was my manifesto, and I wanted everyone to understand where I was coming from and going with it.

Truths: Are Docs Truthful

I think there are truthful documents just like there are deceitful ones. It all depends how you take each document be portrayed. If you take them seriously and find them out to be falsified, it will probably hurt you deeply. If you follow a false document and it makes you a better person eventually, I think it all falls into destiny. No lies are good, but some have a good cause and effect somewhere down the line.

Word of Mouf: Learning Through Convo

Learning through conversation rather than reading is a whole new experience. Through conversation you have a chance to comprehend more of what the teller of the information is trying to say. It is more of a intimate relationship than actually reading to me. You get to ask the teller questions right after they state their information, and they also get feedback from you. I find conversation also to be more fun than just reading, getting to know different people can be a chapter book of its own.

EQUIPED

EQUIPMENT
Figure it out for yourself, my lad,You’ve all that the greatest of men have had,Two arms, two hands, two legs, two eyesAnd a brain to use if you would be wise. With this equipment they all began,So start for the top and say, “I can.”
Look them over, the wise and greatThey take their food from a common plate,And similar knives and forks they use,With similar laces they tie their shoes. The world considers them brave and smart,But you’ve all they had when they made their start.
You can triumph and come to skill,You can be great if you only will. You’re well equipped for what fight you choose,You have legs and arms and a brain to use,And the man who has risen great deeds to doBegan his life with no more than you.
You are the handicap you must face,You are the one who must choose your place,You must say where you want to go,How much you will study the truth to know.God has equipped you for life, but HeLets you decide what you want to be.
Courage must come from the soul within,The man must furnish the will to win.So figure it out for yourself, my lad.You were born with all that the great have had,With your equipment they all began,Get hold of yourself and say: “I can.”

Response: Making of Manifesto

The idea for the imagery to go with my manifesto has been in my head since I started writing the words for it. The actual filming of it was harder than I thought. My schedule conflicted me not to have as much time as I wanted to spend on it, but I think it came out OK. I actually had some equipment to use for this filming for the most part. I had a chance to use a HD camera and a tripod! LOL, I know its not much, but it was cool working with it. My manifesto was about basically being the best you can; working hard and that’s what I had to show in the imagery. The music I choose to accompany my the images was very inspirational to me along with my beliefs of obtaining my goals. My project changed from what it was going to actually show because of my lack of time management skills. Some questions I would have for the audience; “How’s it taste mutha*****”, no but really, how did you like it, and can you relate? I think my films should only get better as I progress. It was fun.

Response: “The Significance of Film Form” by David Bordwell

Wow. I still cannot believe how this guy just broke down “The Wizard of Oz”. I must have seen that movie a hundred times as a kid. I think we watched it until the tape busted. I should be an expert on the movie but I had no idea how much film form is important. It is basically what gives a film its comprehension. It supplies the drama, the comedy, the surprises, its all that. After reading Bordwell reading, it makes me want to watch my favorite movies again, and just follow the writers and directors frame work, or all of their pieces of their movie get put together before my eyes. Film form is what your viewer eventually gets indirectly or directly after seeing your film is what I got from this reading. It was really a “made me think” article.

Dreams
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field

Response: Krannert Art Museum Tour

What is funny my favorite piece of art in the museum was actually the wood floors. The way the light hit them and the feel they gave off, it made me just want a ball, honestly. To me the floors told me a story, that each had a piece of their own story and came together to become one. Because the lines separating the boards look like they could have come from a variety of different places. The floor was saying dreams were built and died here. The floor could have been used for types of activities, like dancing, or just for a class. It made me wonder who all have walked on this floor. My imagination was getting the best of me for a moment, and I have wooden floors in the Krannert Museum to thank for that.Andy Warhol entire series of paintings were all black and white. They were raw. Only one of them stood out to me at first glance. The man at the urinal was just different. It was real and it made me laugh because you can make your own comments with the picture. It is also timeless, people will always know what he was doing. I do not know if I needed a good laugh at the moment or not, but the picture was different, I liked it.
I really cannot say that there was a piece of art in the museum that I just did not like, all of them were beautiful in their own ways. Who I am to judge someone work. I do not know their goals behind their pieces. The golden eagle picture I would have to choose just to choose because, I just wish it was a Peregrine Falcon because it is my favorite bird. All the pieces I liked I cannot say I didn’t like any of them, they were all on the same plateau in my eyes.
My view of contemporary art is still the same; it can be anywhere, anything, and can give you any feeling. Art is powerful and it is in the eye of the beholder.

Response: Contemporary Art

I have not seen too much contemporary modern art in like museums or art shows, but I have seen modern art on the street. I have seen this art in forms of graffiti, tattoos, custom shoe, and clothing design. Modern art to me is style, a persons swagger can be modern art. Art is in every aspect of my life on a day to day basis. Some may shoot me down for defining art this way but it is how I see it. From my experience viewing art and witnessing it being done, I know that it is passionate. I know that every form of art has a meaning behind it. What is amazing sometimes about art is that the simplest design or configuration of work may have the most profound meaning of gigantic or complex pieces of work. As I have stated before, the most underrated art happens in the athletic world. To me all athletes are artist. They perfect their skills and put them n showcase for an audience to see. The way they move, and map out their direction contains every aspect of art. When I play ball its like I stepping onto a new canvas, and my next move will be the first stroke of hopefully a masterpiece, if not I can always start from scratch. Modern art is everywhere and involves every one. Art helps people express and develop themselves to others, it really a beautiful “thang”.

Just Scratching

Inspirations…
Role Model/Heroes: My Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.
My President. Shawn Carter. King James. Derrick Pooh Rose. CP3. Superman.
Books:The Bible. Rolling Thunder Hear My Cry. Watson’s Go to Birmingham 1963. Maniac McGee. The Giver. Catcher in the Rye.
Movies: Enemy of the State. Menace II Society. Micheal Jordan to the Max. He Got Game. Space Jam. Training Day. Glory. Gladiator.
Music: Muzik in all different forms has inspired my life, that’s from infomercials to soundtrack. Enya from Gladiator OST is close to the top and also original theme song from the movie Glory.
People: My Family. Listed in my Inspiration Box
Events: All of our games. Isn’t the game of life when you think about it?
All of these events inspired me but if had to pick one it would be Maniac McGee at this time. It was like one of the first books I read in my life that made me actually sit back and think. It made me believe that adversity is going to arise but you can always get through it. The approaches were simple and it applied to me, I was in I think 6th grade, so I can say they had their target audience down. The author painted a picture for me in every event of the story. It was never a dull moment, it kept me captivated. Hopefully I can have the same effect with my work to my audiences.

Response: Journeys

One of the motifs in this film was proximity. The amount of space in India is limited and every millimeter should be cherished is what this film screamed to me. I also got the idea of people rushing and stressing about time in this film. There were tow types of people riding the train those that seemed in a hurry and stressed and these that seem relaxed and not worried, even thought both were seemed to be dressed in work attire. The relaxed people were just enjoying the ride; they mostly consisted of the people riding on top of the train. They were taking it all in. Those inside the train felt the proximity problem, people so close up on them, sweating, they were probably already late to their engagements. The film to me focused around these motifs. A secondary theme could be how unsafe a train ride can be in India as the director zoomed in on the death of 13 riders by fault of the railroad system. The film was nicely made and reminded me of how valuable space can be and is. I witnessed this first hand in my experience in China while riding public transportation, the weak will not survive when it comes to taking your own space, you have to fight for every millimeter.

Response: Man with a Movie Camera

Three motifs that recognized in the film were hard working women who still had time to look good and get the things they wanted done done. I see the motif of work hard, play hard, and then train hard in the film. After the work scene everything slow down and everyone in the film were seen at the beach; relaxing and having a good time. Afterwards the workouts scenes came into effect. Last but not least I also the motif of life towards the end of the film with the baby being born and given to his mother. It was a rather unexpected moment, but life can be that way sometime, unexpected. Vertov’s manifesto was established in the film the best that he could have; this movie was life through his eyes, it was a day. All and all this film was before its time and a look at life that can still be seen today through the lens of a camera.

First Flickz re-Flection

In the making of my movies there were no rituals taken place. In sentence I and II, they were inspirational to me. They came to me fast, and I knew exactly how I wanted them to be. Overtime a few adjustments came about but nothing huge. Sentence III was random and I felt forced to make it, and I guess thats why its my least favorite. Overall I fell happy with the project and I think it has made me a better editor and person.

Response: No Fear

I feel good about showing my work to the class. I am not sure they will like it or how they will take it, but its all fun. We might have similar views or way different views, its all in the learning process. The risks for me are minimial. I need the criticism, I think it makes me better as a person, and also challenges how I see things. So there is alot to gain; confidence, inspiration, change, trend, feedback; it is all good. I would like to learn how we all approached this assignment different from everybody else. My question for the audience would be; how was it? And then I would say “it doesn’t matter, never-mind.

Crunk

Adj. Meaning lively or make you want to move, dance, or do something! YEAH! Ex. ” Is the party crunk?”

Da Rituals

Mornings.

Take a knee or lay down and thank the Lord. My 2 prayers.

Sportscenter, at least the top 10 plays.

Music usually something crunk.

Procrastinating something or anything.

Nights.

Individual workout/ run. Stress reliever.

A game of some video game at the dorms.

These are the rituals that I can think of right now that I do almost everyday. I left out the obvious ones like showering and brushing my teeth, because those are not unique. My morning rituals have been with me since I was younger. The only one that has changed is Sportcenter. It used to be cartoons. Even though now and then I still may turn to see if Spongebob on. Without doing my rituals my day would not be the same. Matter of fact my day would probably be off. My rituals get me in the right mind set for whatever the world may throw at me that particular day. My rituals have become apart of me, and I do not hesisate in doing them. My night rituals can vary, because nights are just random. I can honestly say that since I have been in college some other rituals that I use to do or could do are dead and gone. I miss some of them, but others I think I am better without.

Top 5 Websites

5. LeoBurnett.com

You get to the draw all over the main page, its crazy.

4. ESPN.com

When I do miss something on Sportscenter or PTI or Around the Horn or… anything off of ESPN, I hit up the site. Everything is organized. Plus with my busy schedule I’m always on alert via mobile.

3. 23isBack.com, ChicagoHoops.com

Tie because I just go to them if I want specific information. They only have one area of expertise that nobody else has.

2. Jordan Flight Club

This site so exclusive I don’t even know the address, just to get in you need a password. But once you get in its overrated, there’s nothing to really do, but the concept was different.

1. Google.com

What else can be #1, its built into most toolbars now. Google is involved in everyday language, don’t believe? Google it.

Zoe and Bios Response

Zoe and Bios was an interesting topic to me. Zoe meaning zoology and Bios being the root word of biography are two different ways to view the world. Zoe being the more stand back and watch the snake slither in the grass and waiting on it, and the Bios being the get bitten by the snake in the grasss. From that analogy you should already know I a Zoe, if that is the correct way of putting it. But I would rather get a full aspect of something from a distance. But I can’t fully sign a contract to Zoe, because depending on the situation I would be categorized as a Bios. Somethings you have to get close up and examine and get detailed information. The whole zoe and bios thought was wonderful and alll, but it was also too serious. To me you are what you are, and I do not think everybody falls in these two categories exclusively. Even though thats how I feel, Twyla Tharp is just an amazing person to me, she “spits” so much knowledge, and I really understand where she is coming from.

Sittin’ on dem thangs

Adj. Meaning driving a car that has chrome rims that are 20inches or higher. Rims mean nothing their just a made up status enabler. Ex. “Yeah I’m sittin’ on dem thangs right now.”

Cold

Adj. Meaning cool or nice. Ex. “Yo jeans cold!” The term is old but still useful when the time is right.

Whip

A noun. A car, any car. Ex. ” My whip up the street.”

Push/Pushing Adj.

An action of driving. Ex. “Who pushing the whip today, because I do not feel like it?”

Pushing and whip are almost always together in the same sentence or context.

Creative DNA Questions/Response

A. What are my attitudes toward: money, power, praise, rivals, work, and play?

Money makes the world go round, but some people can live without it and have a wonderful life. So is money needed? To me, it is. My life is unlike those people but everyone on earth has their own purpose there destiny has to be and will be fulfilled.

Power is good, power is money, the roots of evil. Power is not something I thrive on, because you can find power in the littlest things, and what everyone else considers power might not be power to me.

Praise is humbling to me, but he best praise is the one you give yourself for doing the right thing when no one is around and their are no witnesses.

Rivals: I love them, they make you better, without them I wouldn’t be who I am today.

Work sucks but easy come, easy go, so I PLAY and work hard at things that I think will make me better and that are profound to my life. Hard work pays off, sooner or later.

B. Which artist do I admire the most? C.Why are they artist I respect.

My artist is an athlete, and he was the first one to come to my head. Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets is an artist every night he steps on the court. His fluidity in hos movements and how he compliments others with his stroke of genius. In fast or slow motion he is artistic genius to me. My other artist, musical artist would be Kanye West, no matter what people might say about him, he does his own thang. His style is his own.

D.What do I have in common with my admired artist?

I have in common the want and desire to bring other people into the moment, the moment of just artistic genius. I cannot really explain, but its like the alley opp, picture it, I would be the one lobbing the pass and someone would be catching it for the dunk, all eyes would be on them, but the complete picture makes the frame. From Kanye West, I am slowly but surely thinking outside of the box. I have always had my own swagger and style, I just have to implement them more.

E. Does anyone in my life regularly inspire me?

Top 10 Things 02/02/09

For some reason today I noticed cars. Car brand, model, shape, and the respect people get for driving a certain brand. So today’s Top 10 is dedicated to the cars I seen today.

10. Saturn. I forgot the model, but they all look the same anyway.

9. Pontiac. When I was younger I thought they were the coolest cars. Wow, times have changed.

8. Ford Taurus. I’m pushing this whip right now because its better on gas than a Jeep, but this has to be one of the most owned car in Champaign-Urbana. This car just has no personality no matter what you do to it.

7. Hyundai. No matter how much people may talk about the brand, they just keep getting better and better.

6. Buick Le Sabre. This car for some reason just screams old to me, but I seen this model a number of times today. I guess they making a comeba….never-mind.

5. Jaguar X Type. I haven’t seen too many of these on campus, but my favorite animal is on the logo for the brand. I would get one just because of that.

4. Cadillac CTS. This box shaped card is like old style/new, and just plain cold. Cadillac did a good job with this car if they were trying to get rid of their just for grandpa them, even though the man driving the one I seen today had to be in his 60’s. And he was going about 25mph, in a 35!

3. Oldsmobile Aurora. I love this car. Its just so old school gangsta to me. If you make some minor changes to it, it goes a long way. Plus I can Actually fit in it spaciously. The one I seen today was “sittin’ on dem thangs.”

2. BMW 330i. I was so shocked to see this model because I never see it! Plus it brought back memories of mines, that I only had so little time with.

1. Audi A6. This brand will definitely be in my future. These cars are just sexy. They are on the rise of surpassing Mercedes as the next luxury car, or the next if you pushing this car you doing big things.

1. The winning catch in Superbowl 43. Santonio Holmes catch behind 3 defenders left me in awe. Awe because I couldn’t believe what just happened, and that the team I wanted to win just loss.
